Why Would We Ever Want to Return to School?

By Erick Gutierrez

Like many people, I've been complaining about the lockdown. I complained about how I missed people and going out. I hated going to online school: I missed being in person school. Well, my friends, that is exactly what is going to happen on April 5th. That Is the day I thought I wanted to wait for.

We've been on distance learning for over a year now, and lots of things have had to change. At first, I thought things had changed for the worst. Although things started messily and the beginning was uncertain, I soon started to see the silver lining of the situation. Not only did I have the  comfort of my own home, but I also didn't have to be around people. Although I said I missed people, not being around people has its upsides. For example, I could play music in the middle of class (With the risk of unmuting myself by accident and revealing that I still listen to Katy Perry). Didn't do your hair? No problem! You can hide behind that screen of yours! The camera off button comes with various uses. You can use your phone in class , and avoid having to look nice for school. I could lie down on the couch, or wear a blanket without being judged.

All these cushy comforts have really grown on me, and I can't imagine being without them at this point. Which is why I have suddenly loathed the idea of returning to in person school.

I can't be the only one who uses their phone and wears a blanket in class.

But as long as you have a nice cup of cocoa and a youtube video music playing in the background, distance learning should be a breeze. And being disconnected from society isnt torture, its a break from pretending to be an extrovert.

Inevitably however, we will return to in person school. It's not going to be what you imagined. It's still going to be a lot different. And it's going to be a lot of hassle to keep kids 6 feet apart in those classrooms especially if we haven't seen each other in a year. Why go through all that when we could just wait a little longer?
